ACBF played a crucial role in the recent Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and the Meeting of the Parties (MOP3) to the Protocol on Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. Held in Panama City in February 2024, the conferences brought together stakeholders to address global tobacco control efforts.
Betina Edziwa, Head of Special Programs, emphasized the organization's contributions to strengthening tobacco control capacity across Africa, highlighting the growing concern over new tobacco products and the importance of decisive action by participating countries. ACBF's presence extended beyond presentations. An exhibition stand was a platform to showcase its Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and Tobacco Control Program Phase 3. Policy briefs and economic analyses on tobacco control were distributed to foster knowledge sharing and raise awareness. ACBF strengthened partnerships and collaboration for tobacco control in Africa through meetings and side events. The conferences adopted 45 decisions to advance global tobacco control efforts.
