The goal of the EPM - Makerere program like the sister EPM programs is to improve efficiency of the public sector in sub- Saharan African countries, through the enhancement of capacity for economic policy analysis and management.
Specific objectives of the program are:
- Consolidation of the institutional capacity of Makerere University to provide high level academic training focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of economic policy management relevant to countries in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa;
- Training of a critical mass of economic policy advisors and managers in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa, as well as developing and implementing targeted short-term training courses.
- Development of teaching and reading materials for the EPM;
- Networking with other EPM Programs in Africa and formation of alumni networks;
- Promotion and extension of the program to post-conflict areas and other under-represented countries in the EPM training.
