The launch of the Ubora Academy at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the ACBF Board of Governors (BoG) marks a transformative step in addressing Africa’s critical governance and development challenges. Despite the continent’s immense growth potential, leadership and governance capacity gaps hinder effective policy implementation and sustainable progress. The Ubora Academy seeks to close these gaps by equipping leaders with advanced skills to strengthen institutions, enhance public service delivery, and drive economic development. Inaugurated by Ivory Coast’s Minister of Finance and Budget, Mr Adama Coulibaly, the academy is poised to tackle pressing issues such as climate resilience, sustainability, and crisis management. It aligns with ACBF’s 2023 - 2027 strategic plan and broader African frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. ACBF Executive Secretary, Mr. Mamadou Biteye, highlighted the Academy’s flagship Leadership Excellence in Africa’s Public Sector (LEAPS) program, which aims to develop a cadre of leaders capable of implementing bold reforms and transforming governance.
Similarly, H.E. Josefa Sacko of the African Union underscored the importance of strong leadership and good governance in achieving sustainable development. Supported by key partners such as Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Finnish Institute of Public Management HAUS, the Ubora Academy is set to advance Africa’s development goals and address its most urgent challenges.
