AMICAALL is a concept of the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV and AIDS in Africa. It is a strategy for community action on HIV and AIDS at the local level. AMICAALL-Swaziland is tasked with the responsibility of building the capacity for urban grass-roots communities and municipalities to respond to the AIDS epidemic. In May 2000, the ACBF Executive Board approved a grant of US$ 1,060,000 to AMICAALL as a ‘special intervention’ project. In December 2005, the Executive Board approved additional grant of US$ 1 million to AMICAALL.
The goal of the project was to increase coverage, improve effectiveness and access to HIV and AIDS interventions, for the purpose of slowing down and eventually turning around the epidemic and its resultant effects among the members of the urban public and urban local government institutions.
