Since independence in 1962, Burundi has experienced a series of cyclical conflicts that have led to waves of ethnic violence. The most serious of these erupted in 1993 and lasted for more than ten years, causing serious damage on the material and human capacity. The capacity building program is a response to the enormous challenges and capacity deficits that Burundi is facing after twelve years of conflict.
The goal of the program is to contribute to the improvement of the economic performance and to the achievement of the Government’s development objectives under the PRSP through capacity building of State and non-State actors involved in the economic and financial management.
